Learn to Thrive Through Relational Body Psychotherapy

Through this gentle yet powerful process, you can process trauma, restore balance, and rediscover your innate capacity for joy and aliveness.

Are you feeling emotionally weighed down?

As human beings, we are beautifully intricate and deeply interconnected organisms. Relational body psychotherapy recognises this and works with the spiritual, mental, energetic, physical, and emotional levels of ourselves to move towards greater integration and wholeness.

Addressing trauma at its core

Traumatic events and experiences can often leave us disconnected from our bodies, making us feel  out of touch with ourselves. This disconnection can manifest in various ways, including depression, extreme anxiety, difficulty communicating or sustaining relationships, and unpredictable emotional states.  We may also experience physical symptoms, such as chronic muscular tension or other medical and physical issues.

While talking therapies can be helpful for many, when it comes to complex trauma, approaches that also address the physical and emotional experiences held within the body are often more effective - especially when the trauma occurred during a pre-verbal stage of development.

Drawing on these principles, Relational Body Psychotherapy offers an effective and robust Body-mind approach to treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, and all forms of PTSD. It is a holistic and deeply healing process, enabling individuals to release trauma, restore balance, and reclaim their sense of aliveness.

WHAT TO EXPECT

From Tension to Transformation

Once we’ve established trust and understanding, we can begin to explore various therapeutic tools while staying deeply connected to the wisdom of your body. These may include working consciously with your breath, engaging in body awareness exercises, guided visualisations, movement, and massage (with or without energy work).  Each of these practices helps to release muscular tension and energetic blocks, gradually allowing access to body memories, impulses, and emotions.

As these energies are expressed physically and emotionally, the process leads to integration and healing.  Along with these methods, I incorporate inner child work, Gestalt exercises, and Bioenergetic exercises.  These techniques are particularly effective in healing fragmented or disowned parts of the self, such as the traumatised child, and in identifying and disempowering negative internal voices that may not align with your authentic self.

With sensitivity, conscious touch, and a heart-centered presence, this work helps regulate your nervous system, offering greater freedom from fear and emotional reactivity. Ultimately, the goal is for you to experience a more balanced, joyful, and embodied life.

THE SERVICE

Relational Body Psychotherapy

Body psychotherapy has its roots in the pioneering work of Wilhelm Reich, a brilliant psychiatrist and a contemporary of Sigmund Freud. In the 1930s, Reich broke new ground by going beyond the mind, emphasising the importance of addressing the physical body in the treatment of his patients. Among his many achievements was the development of Biodynamic massage as a therapeutic tool for mental health. Reich’s discoveries- such as the understanding that memories are stored in the cells of the body and that muscular tension often reflects unresolved emotions- were far ahead of their time.  For decades, Western medicine tended to separate the mind from the body, but modern neurological research over the last 25 years has validated Reich’s insights. This research has expanded our understanding of the connection between trauma and mental, emotional, and physical suffering.

THE SERVICE

Biodynamic Massage

Biodynamic Massage is a therapeutic technique that focuses on the deep connection between the body and our emotions.  It is grounded in the principles of Biodynamic Psychology, which was developed by the pioneering work of Wilhelm Reich and further evolved by Gerda Boyesen. This therapy recognises that emotional and physical issues are stored in the body and that these blockages can cause both psychological and physical discomfort. The goal of Biodynamic Massage is to release stored tension, promote deep relaxation, and restore the body’s natural energy flow. By integrating physical touch with an understanding of the body’s energetic and emotional states, this therapy helps individuals reconnect with their bodies, leading to emotional and physical healing.

→ Increased body awareness

→ Reduction of chronic tension

  • What can I expect from the weekly session?
In each session, you can expect a combination of grounding exercises, gentle movement, conscious breathing, and mindfulness techniques designed to release tension and enhance the mind-body connection. Sessions may include opportunities for self-expression, such as vocalizations or gestures, to help process and release emotions. Every class is tailored to create a safe and supportive space for you to explore how your body stores and expresses your experiences. No prior experience is necessary; the exercises are adaptable to all levels of fitness and mobility.
  • Do I need experience with Bio-energetics to join this class?
No prior experience is needed. The class is open to beginners and more experienced practitioners alike. Whether you’re new to body-centered practices or have experience with yoga or somatic therapies, Bioenergetic yoga provides accessible techniques to explore the relationship between your body, emotions, and energy. You’ll be guided step-by-step through each exercise to ensure you feel comfortable and supported.
  • How long will it take for me to see results?
The experience of results will vary for each person. Some participants notice an immediate sense of relaxation, emotional release, or increased energy after just one session. For deeper, more lasting changes, such as improved emotional awareness or release of chronic tension, consistent practice over several weeks or months is recommended. Everyone’s journey is unique, and progress depends on your goals, engagement, and personal circumstances.

The Role of Psychoperistalsis in Biodynamic Massage

One of the core concepts of Biodynamic Massage is psychoperistalsis, a term coined by Gerda Boyesen to describe the rhythmic, involuntary movements within the body that are related to both physical digestion and emotional processing. These movements, which include the rhythmic contractions of the intestines and deeper organ systems, are a reflection of the body’s natural rhythms, including emotional processing and memory. In Biodynamic Massage, psychoperistalsis is particularly important as it connects to how the body processes trauma, stress, and suppressed emotions. These involuntary bodily movements can become restricted or blocked when emotional or physical trauma is stored in the tissues. Psychoperistalsis can be seen as the body’s way of processing and releasing held emotions and energy, which can become stuck over time, leading to physical symptoms or emotional distress. This is where the stethoscope plays a crucial role in Biodynamic Massage. The therapist uses the stethoscope to listen to the rhythmic movements within the body and specifically the deep, subtle sounds of psychoperistalsis. By tuning into these rhythms, the therapist can gain insight into the body’s state and identify areas where the natural flow has become restricted. The stethoscope allows the therapist to detect blockages in the digestive or energetic systems, such as a lack of movement in certain areas of the body, helping to guide the therapeutic touch and ensure a safe, targeted release.

MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Hello, I'm Natasha

I have over 15 years of experience working therapeutically with clients, I am a trainee Relational Body Psychotherapist, Biodynamic massage therapist and Bioenergetics Yoga teacher.  Developing a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work, as it is essential for creating a safe space for healing. I always take the time to get to know you and your history before integrating conscious touch or massage into the sessions.

I came to therapy feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety and self doubt that I couldn't get out of on my own.  Through our sessions, Natasha allowed me to feel deeply understood and supported in ways I've never experienced before.  The combination of talking therapy and massage helped me to slowly heal emotions that I had buried for years.  I now feel more confident, present and able to handle life's challenges.  This work has truly changed my life.
